He was a donor with his brother of the money to build the Benson Memorial Library in 1903 in Titusville, Crawford Co, PA. In 1919/20 he was a President, Tide Water Oil Co., Ltd. in Bayonne, Hudson Co, NJ.

Robert Dix BENSON and Harriet Brice GRANGER were married on 11 Oct 1888 in Passaic, Passaic Co, NJ. Harriet Brice GRANGER (daughter of Henry GRANGER and Harriet A. FRACKER) was born on 31 Mar 1862 in Zanesville, Muskingum Co, OH. Robert Dix BENSON and Harriet Brice GRANGER had the following children:
